The Texas Longhorns have updated their 2025 football schedule, impacting their home game against Sam Houston and one of their open dates. Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte announced the change in his weekly newsletter on Tuesday.
Previously, Texas had a scheduled open date on Saturday, Sept. 20, followed by a home game against the Sam Houston Bearkats on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
The Longhorns will now face the Bearkats in Austin a week earlier, on Saturday, Sept. 20. As a result, Texas’ first open date of the season has been pushed to Sept. 27. The rest of the 2025 Texas football schedule remains unchanged.
Had the game not been rescheduled, Sam Houston would have had back-to-back open dates on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 after their Sept. 6 matchup at Hawai’i.
Texas is set to kick off the season on Saturday, Aug. 30, with a road game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Longhorns will play their home opener against the San Jose State Spartans on Sept. 6, followed by a matchup with the UTEP Miners on Sept. 13.
With Texas set to begin SEC play on Oct. 4 at Florida, the Longhorns will now have an open date before that game. Their conference road schedule also includes trips to Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Georgia, along with the annual Red River Showdown against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
In 2025, Texas will host SEC opponents Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Texas A&M in Austin.
